Text 22 Jun Final Essay

South Central has a very interesting history. I guess that’s what makes it a very interesting  place. There are important events that made South Central what it is today. The three most important events that have had the greatest impact on making South Central LA what it is today are the watts riots, gang history , and the crack epidemic.

The first event was the watts riot. The watts riots really put South Central on the map. It showed people what was really going on here. Still i don’t think anybody cared enough to help. Its really sad that this happened. There was over 1 million dollars in damages. The national guard was brought into cool things down.

The second event that made South Central what it is today are Gangs. Violent gangs really messed South Central up. Gangs like the Crip’s and Blood’s made this area more violent and ugly. But not all gangs were bad. Positive gangs like the Black Panthers and The brown berets were the most positive thing that happened to south central. They fought for peoples rights and peoples protection , not for drugs and money.

The third event that made South Central what it is today is the crack epidemic. The crack epidemic made south central the drug capital of the country. The C.I.A started selling this drug to south central, just to fund a army in a different country. Thats was a horrible decision. Then the government said they were going to have a “war on drugs”. That was just too funny. The government back stabbed the people they told to sell drugs. It was just wrong. But South Central paid the biggest price at the end.

All of there events made South Central what it is today. The watts riots showed how angry people were down here, the gangs showed how violent we can be and how caring we can be , the crack epidemic showed how much the government really cares about this area. I hope that south central changes for the better.

Fred Hampton was born August 30 1948. He was born in Chicago, Illinois. He was murdered by a bunch of “pigs” on December 4 , 1969. He was a African-American activist and a deputy chairman of the Illinois chapter of the black panther party. He formed a pact between two of Chicago’s most power street gangs. What makes him a great leader is the fact that he died for what he stood for.
